Reiki: What It Is and How It Can Help You

What is Reiki?

Japanese energy healing technique for stress reduction and relaxation.

Benefits

  • Induces profound relaxation and reduces stress and anxiety
  • Supports the body's natural healing processes
  • Can reduce pain, fatigue, and emotional distress
  • Non-invasive and safe as a complement to conventional medical care
  • Restores a sense of inner calm, groundedness, and presence

What to Expect

You lie fully clothed on a treatment table. The Reiki practitioner places their hands lightly on or just above specific positions on the body — head, torso, limbs — pausing at each position for several minutes. You may feel warmth, tingling, or a sense of heaviness and release. Sessions are deeply quiet. Some practitioners also offer distance Reiki conducted remotely.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to believe in Reiki for it to work?
Practitioners say that Reiki works regardless of belief. The relaxation response it produces is measurable and benefits most people who receive it with an open mind.
What are the different levels of Reiki?
Traditional Usui Reiki has three levels: Shoden (first degree, hands-on), Okuden (second degree, symbols and distance healing), and Shinpiden (master level, teaching). Western systems have slight variations.
