What is Rebirthing?
A breathing technique helping release suppressed emotions and traumas.
Benefits
- Releases birth trauma and early conditioning held in the body
- Produces states of deep cellular relaxation
- Supports resolution of fundamental fears and patterns
- Works with the breath as a direct path to the subconscious
- Often produces a sense of profound peace and renewal
What to Expect
Rebirthing uses connected, circular breathing — no pause between inhale and exhale — to shift the body-mind state. Sessions are typically one-to-one with an experienced rebirther. You'll lie comfortably and breathe while the rebirther holds space and gently supports the process. Physical and emotional releases are common. Sessions include grounding and integration discussion. Wet rebirthing (in warm water) is also practiced by some facilitators.
Frequently Asked Questions
- Is rebirthing the same as breathwork?
- Rebirthing is one of the original connected-breath practices, developed by Leonard Orr in the 1970s. Modern 'breathwork' often draws on the same connected breath principle. Rebirthing specifically works with birth and early imprinting.
- Is it safe?
- When practiced with a trained rebirther, yes. The facilitator monitors your state throughout. Contraindications include severe cardiovascular conditions and some psychiatric diagnoses.
- What does 'rebirthing' mean?
- The name refers to the idea that the connected breath can take practitioners back through birth memories and allow their re-imprinting — replacing the original shock of birth with a felt sense of safety and welcome.
