Craniosacral Therapy: What It Is and How It Can Help You

What is Craniosacral Therapy?

A gentle hands-on technique working with the craniosacral system.

Benefits

  • Deeply calms the nervous system and supports recovery from stress and trauma
  • Relieves chronic headaches, migraines, and jaw (TMJ) tension
  • Supports post-injury recovery and post-surgical healing
  • Effective for infants with birth trauma, colic, and feeding difficulties
  • Enhances body awareness and a sense of inner spaciousness

What to Expect

You remain fully clothed on a massage table. The practitioner uses extremely light touch — often no more than five grams of pressure — at key points along the spine, skull, and sacrum. The session is deeply quiet and meditative. You may notice subtle movements, heat, tingling, or emotional releases. Sessions last 60–90 minutes.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is craniosacral therapy the same as osteopathy?
Craniosacral therapy developed from cranial osteopathy but is now practised independently. Osteopaths use a broader range of techniques; craniosacral therapists specialise in the craniosacral system.
Who can benefit most?
CST is especially valued for stress-related conditions, chronic headaches, post-trauma recovery, and infants. It is gentle enough for newborns and the elderly.
